The field came before the shop
Half an acre outside Caldwell, planted with what would not survive a long truck ride. Cosmos, sweet peas, dahlias. Things a supermarket cannot sell because they do not travel.

We would rather run out
Most flower shops order in from a wholesaler so the shelves are never bare. We do not. Some Fridays the shop is full and some Fridays it is nearly empty, and that is what a season actually looks like.
